Vision Marine Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: VMAR) has reached a significant milestone in its strategic partnership with German boatbuilder MS Marine GmbH, known for its premium STERK brand. The two companies have completed the internal hull optimisation required to integrate Vision Marine’s flagship E-Motion™ 180E electric outboard propulsion system into upcoming electric boat models.
This development marks a crucial step towards full-scale production of purpose-built electric boats. Unlike retrofits, which often involve compromises, the new hulls are designed from the outset for electric propulsion. The modified design supports three or four high-voltage battery pack configurations and is compatible with both single and twin outboard setups — providing flexibility across multiple performance applications.
Vision Marine’s CEO, Alexandre Mongeon, described the result as “a true example of purpose-built electric hull design,” adding that it confirms the scalability and performance potential of the E-Motion™ platform. “This milestone demonstrates that premium boatbuilders can successfully integrate our technology at scale, without compromising the identity or handling of the vessel.”
The redesign project has been a collaborative effort between the two companies’ engineering teams, balancing the physical and technical demands of high-voltage electric systems with the performance expectations associated with the STERK brand. “From day one, our goal was to integrate the industry’s most advanced electric drivetrain while maintaining the performance and look of a STERK,” said Milan Sterk, Managing Partner of MS Marine GmbH.
The finalisation of hull integration follows the announcement in February 2025 of an exclusive global three-year agreement between Vision Marine and MS Marine. Under the terms of the deal, Vision Marine becomes the sole supplier of electric propulsion systems for selected STERK models. In addition, Vision Marine will distribute these electric models globally, offering them to a broader market through its established sales and service network.
The two companies are now moving into the final integration and validation phase. Sea trials are expected to begin within weeks, with commercial release of the first electric models anticipated shortly thereafter.
Vision Marine’s 180E system is one of the most powerful electric outboard solutions on the market, aimed at providing performance that rivals traditional petrol-powered boats. The company’s goal is to bridge the gap between sustainability and high performance — a challenge that has historically limited electric boat uptake in the performance segment.
This latest announcement aligns with the broader global shift toward sustainable marine propulsion, as consumer interest in electric boats continues to grow. The integration of the E-Motion™ system into a recognised performance brand like STERK marks a step forward in the mainstream adoption of electric boating solutions.
By focusing on full-system integration, rather than after-market conversion, Vision Marine and MS Marine aim to deliver a polished, turn-key product to the market — one that is purpose-built for electric power and engineered to deliver both speed and reliability.
