Emirates GBR won the opening race of day two at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix, with Team USA second and Artemis Racing third. Yesterday’s results have been voided, all points scrubbed after only three teams could race in high winds. Every team starts from zero.
Dylan Fletcher’s crew won the start from the middle of the line and stretched 50-60 metres clear on the first manoeuvre, going left at the bottom mark to sail against the tide before crossing back with the current. By Mark 3 they held more than 200 metres on the fleet and ran out the race at 93 percent flight stability.
Canfield put USA into second in front of the home crowd. Artemis worked the left side to climb to third.
Germany took an early start penalty. Switzerland was penalised for failing to keep clear of Red Bull Italy. France carried a penalty from earlier in the race. Australia’s Bonds Flying Roos, leading the season standings coming in, spent the race at the back and picked up a further penalty, with only two races left to secure a place in the final.
Spain sat out with hydraulic issues.
