New Plymouth Yacht Club opens its season with a new website and on Saturday 26 September with a programme designed to convert recent interest into regular sailors.

The club held an introduction evening this week that drew approximately 30 prospective members. Four free onshore theory sessions will run each Tuesday in October at 7:00pm, covering yacht systems, rigging and preparation before on-water sessions begin 4 November.
Opening day activities begin at 10:00am with junior sailing, followed by the official opening at midday and senior sailing at 2:00pm. A “Have a Go” day will offer demonstration sails for newcomers at $25 per person, with volunteers sought to assist.
Of young club members, junior sailor Kellan Casey placed 28th overall in the Silver Fleet at the AIMS games in Tauranga this week. The three-day regatta saw conditions ranging from 10-15 knots to strong winds and a two-hour delay on the final day. Casey secured a 10th-place finish in one race.
Club member Ryan O’Neil represented the club at the Yachting New Zealand National Clinic at Murrays Bay Sailing Club, making the club proud to have one of their young sailors selected for the National Youth Programme.
A pre-season working bee is scheduled from 8:00am on Sunday 20 September. Call John Pitman on 027 669 3991 to volunteer. Recent works include completion of the west wall enclosure by Baldrick and Alan Gee.
