New Zealand’s leading syndication company continues more remarkable growth with the arrival of five new boats by the year’s end, taking the fleet to an impressive 19.

Ownaship’s third Maritimo M51 and second Lucia 40 will be the next in the water, alongside two more Rayglass 3500s and a brand-new release MY40 power cat, due for delivery in December. And with all this coming on the back of the company’s second M51 launched in June, it’s full steam ahead for the Westhaven-based syndication business.

Ownaship’s success with the Maritimo M51 should come as no surprise to those familiar with these luxurious Australian-built yachts. “They’re certainly making our shareholders happy,” says Managing Director Simon Barker. “There are some great adventures being had on our Maritimos. They get out to the Bay of Islands, Great Barrier and Kawau pretty regularly. And being great boats for socialising, fishing or just relaxing, they suit a wide range of people and moods, which is perfect for our shared model.”

As for the growing popularity of syndication itself, Simon puts it down to a range of factors. “We hear the word ‘justification’ a lot. People tell us they just can’t justify the expense and luxury of owning their own boat when they still have other holiday plans, baches, work commitments and family all taking up time.

“People are really busy these days. There are lots of options in terms of how we can spend our time, and we’re finding more and more that people just don’t want the hassle of looking after, cleaning and maintaining their own boats – a big commitment in time and money.”

From this viewpoint, syndication makes a whole lot of sense, and with attitudes to sharing changing markedly thanks to the likes of Airbnb, Uber and Lime, demand for boat share has grown as well.

Like the previous two syndicates, the upcoming M51 syndicate will be split six ways, which seems to be the sweet spot for shareholders looking for a combination of flexibility and cost. Ease of use also seems to be key according to Simon, who says his shareholders rave about how easy their walk-on, walk-off service is. A quick glance through the testimonials on the website confirms this, and makes one seriously consider a share in the upcoming Maritimo for oneself.

If you’re interested in any of the syndicates mentioned above, get in touch with Ownaship. Share availability still looks good for summer but it likely won’t be that way for long!

Ownaship is proud to announce a brand new partnership with Australasia’s leading multihull distributor Multihull Solutions. The partnership means the company is now New Zealand’s exclusive agent for award-winning French catamaran builder Fountaine Pajot as well as the revolutionary new Iliad catamarans, which premiered on the market this year to much acclaim.

An Iliad 50 has already been ordered by Ownaship for syndication in 2020, along with an Astrèa 42 sailing catamaran. These will join two existing Lucia 40 catamaran syndicates, the second of which launches this September and has only a few shares left to complete.
If a catamaran is of interest now is a great time to get in touch with Ownaship. It has new, used and share options available for this summer as well as leading into the America’s Cup.
