“This year’s rally has been our biggest yet, with over 160 vessels—both yachts and powerboats—enjoying an unforgettable adventure across some of the world’s most beautiful destinations,” said Rally Director Viki Moore. “We’re incredibly grateful to the communities, businesses, and organisations that have supported and welcomed us along the way.”

The Island Cruising Pacific Rally runs annually from May through October, allowing participants to tailor their itinerary to their own cruising style. Most vessels depart from the Bay of Islands in New Zealand or Southport in Australia, with stops at tropical destinations including Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia.

“The rally is more than just a sailing event,” Moore adds. “It’s about building a community of passionate adventurers who share a love for the ocean, exploring new cultures, and creating unforgettable experiences in the South Pacific.”

The rally welcomes sailors and powerboat owners of all experience levels, with vessels ranging from 26-foot to 100-foot – and everything inbetween. Participants benefit from comprehensive pre-departure training, regular updates throughout the rally, and the opportunity to connect with other cruisers. Along the way, they can discover hidden gems and immerse themselves in the rich cultures of the islands.

In addition to its adventurous spirit, the rally is committed to giving back. This year, in collaboration with Citizens of the Sea, sailors were trained to collect and upload Ocean eDNA samples. Using advanced digital tools, these samples help scientists track changes in marine ecosystems, providing valuable data for climate impact assessments and conservation efforts.

Participants also contributed to 3D reef mapping, recorded biogeochemical data, and maintained ocean loggers, helping to deliver crucial environmental information at a cost lower than ever before. Citizens of the Sea aims to protect vulnerable marine ecosystems by utilising these insights.

The rally has also partnered with Days for Girls to transport handmade sanitary kits from New Zealand to Fiji, helping young girls in remote communities access education. Working alongside YWAM Koha and Sea Mercy Fiji, the initiative ensures these kits reach the people who need them most.

Beyond environmental efforts, rally participants engage in beach clean-ups, deliver clothing for Rotary, and support remote communities that are often off the beaten tourist track. “Our sailors love being part of these efforts,” says Moore, “helping both the environment and local communities throughout the Pacific.”

The social aspect of the rally is equally vibrant, with events like the Musket Cove Regatta in Fiji and the Vava’u Sailing Festival in Tonga being highlights on the calendar. Vanuatu also hosts numerous cultural celebrations, adding to the overall experience for rally participants.

As the fleet prepares for the final stretch, participants will receive daily weather updates and support on arrival, including assistance with formalities and biosecurity requirements in both New Zealand and Australia. Upon arrival, they will be greeted with celebratory events and discounts from rally business partners.
