Carbon weapon: light, strong game reel

Written by

Kiwi fishing reel manufacturer Seneca Offshore Crafts specialised high-end carbon game fishing reels that lead the world.

Its flagship reel, the Seneca 50 R, is a no compromise game fishing weapon designed by aerospace engineers for ultimate light weight with unparalleled strength and rigidity. Weighing in at less than 1.5kg (3.3lb), the reel features carbon fibre monocoque construction, TC4 titanium drag cams, oversized stainless steel 316 gearing and a fail-safe triple-pawl anti-reverse system.

The reel seat and handle are titanium, the fish-on strike alarm (clicker) is harmonically tuned and super-loud, and there is a silky-smooth carbon drag system.

Holding up to 800m of 24kg monofilament nylon and featuring five ball bearings plus one roller (TB) bearing, the reel has a fast 3.8:1 retrieve ratio and exerts a maximum 24kg of drag.
