Vision Marine Technologies files a new patent application for their cutting-edge Independent Fault Detection Technology

Published

Vision Marine Technologies has filed a new patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, reinforcing its commitment to advancing electric marine propulsion. The patent, part of an ongoing series of innovations for the company’s E-Motion™ High Voltage Electric Marine Powertrain, introduces Independent Fault Detection Technology—a system designed to enhance reliability and performance in electric marine powertrains.

“Reliability and performance are at the core of our E-Motion™ powertrain systems,” said Xavier Montagne, Chief Technology Officer at Vision Marine. “This patent application highlights the benefits of a redundant architecture with multiple high-voltage batteries connected in parallel. Independent safety loops ensure each battery operates securely, maintaining peak performance under various conditions.”

The new technology integrates a Power Distribution Unit (PDU) equipped with independent fault detection loops for key powertrain components, including the batteries and propulsion system. These detection loops autonomously isolate faults, eliminating the need for manual intervention or centralized control. By addressing potential issues in real time, the system minimizes downtime and enhances operational reliability—critical for electric marine propulsion.

The development aligns with Vision Marine’s broader mission to create high-performance, sustainable electric propulsion systems. By combining advanced engineering with real-time data monitoring, the company is optimizing powertrain efficiency and supporting the marine industry’s transition to electric propulsion.
