SailGP establishes first long-term training base in Pensacola

Written by

SailGP has established its first long-term training base at the American Magic High Performance Center in Pensacola, Florida. The agreement runs through to 2031 and gives the league a permanent training location in North America.

The move comes as the SailGP fleet reaches 13 teams, with further expansion planned. Until now, teams have relied on limited training opportunities outside race weekends, with no fixed base available year-round.

Pensacola provides consistent wind, protected water, and access throughout the year. The facility itself was already in place, allowing SailGP to base operations within an existing high-performance environment rather than developing a new site.

The arrangement is operated through NYYC American Magic, which opened the Pensacola centre in January. SailGP will manage access centrally, with training time allocated across teams. A pay-to-train structure allows teams to use the facility only when required.

On-water support, safety systems, and technical services are shared. Simulator capability is also available to teams using the base. Training outside the race calendar is expected to begin in September 2026.

American Magic will not field a SailGP team. Instead, the organisation hosts the facility and provides services while remaining separate from competition on the water.

For teams, the base offers regular access to controlled training conditions without the need to establish private facilities. For the league, it provides a fixed point for preparation, equipment reference, and operational consistency as the fleet grows.

The Pensacola base is now part of SailGP’s operating structure.
