Nic de Mey Yachts has announced the successful launch of Viola, the second hull in the DEMEY 60 series, marking another significant milestone for the Tauranga-based builder.
With four weeks of sea trials and commissioning now underway, Viola is being put through her paces before delivery to her home port at Orakei, Auckland. It’s a milestone that speaks to the growing confidence in a programme that began as an ambitious concept and has since proven itself on the water.
ON THE DEMEY 60
“The goal was to achieve a design as intuitive as it was beautiful, ensuring that every detail was perfected, no matter how small.”
Nic de Mey, Nic de Mey Yachts
For those who haven’t followed the DEMEY 60’s development, the design is a striking evolution in New Zealand bluewater cruising. The concept came to life in 2002, and we first covered the Spaceship 60 concept back in 2023, when the project was still taking shape. Since then, the build quality and philosophy behind the yard has only deepened, as we explored in our feature inside DEMEY Yachts, where passion for the craft is evident at every station.
The package extends beyond the mothership too: the purpose-built DEMEY tender rounds out a cohesive cruising system that leaves little to chance.
ON THE DEMEY 60
“Whether for island-hopping adventures or ambitious transoceanic passages, the DEMEY 60 ensures you can travel farther and faster, redefining the experience of speed, stability, and remarkable fuel efficiency.”
Nic de Mey, Nic de Mey Yachts
For anyone interested in seeing Viola up close, Nic de Mey Yachts is offering private walk-throughs while she’s in Tauranga and Auckland. An open walk-through day is also being planned. Those keen to arrange a private viewing can contact the yard directly.
