The BONDS Flying are the in-form team this season. Although that was one close final between the Australians and GBR. Congratulations to BOND Flying Roos.

DAY 2: SUN 31 MAY 2026 NYT / MON 1 JUL NZSTRACE 1

07:45AM NZST – With yesterday’s points scoring wiped off the charts, we start again today with Race 1. Last minute: Spain sat out with hydraulic issues. Emirates GBR gets the win. The race flytime record goes to Taylor Canfield and his US team at 96.8%.

DAY 2: SUN 31 MAY 2026 NYT / MON 1 JUL NZSTPRE-RACE UPDATES

Day two of the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix starts with a blank scoreboard. All points from yesterday have been wiped, with organisers ruling it unfair to carry results from a three-boat fleet into an overall championship standings. Every team starts from zero.

Yesterday’s racing was reduced to just Emirates GBR, Los Gallos Spain and Team USA after high winds prevented craning operations from getting the rest of the F50s into the water. Spain won two races, GBR one. None of it counts.

With lighter winds forecast today, the full fleet is expected on the water. Three races are scheduled. All the points are up for grabs.

DAY 1: SAT 30 MAY 2026 NYT / SUN 31 MAY NZSTPOST-RACE ROUNDOUT

Spain dominates a disrupted Day 1 at SailGP New York

High winds at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix delayed the start of racing by roughly an hour, with crane operations halted before teams could get all F50s into the water. SailGP confirmed a reduced four-boat fleet for the day, with participating teams selected by championship standing and points adjusted to match.

Race 1 was a two-boat affair. With only Spain and Emirates GBR on the start line, GBR crossed first and led every mark of the eight-mark East River course, recording a top speed of 97.3 km/h in the process. Spain finished second.

The USA joined for Race 2, making it a three-boat contest, but the American team used it largely as course practice. Spain and GBR traded blows again as the real race within the race, with Spain taking the win and GBR second.

Race 3 followed the same pattern. Spain were dominant, delivering what observers called a masterclass to take the final race of the day and with it, the Day 1 standings.

Los Gallos finished the day on four points, with Dylan Fletcher’s Emirates GBR crew on three. The USA took third on zero, with the remaining ten teams yet to score.

DAY 1: SAT 30 MAY 2026 NYT / SUN 31 MAY NZSTRACE 2

08:50AM NZST – The USA team has joined the event for race 2, which we understand will be the final race of the day. It’s all very dynamic.

Spain takes Race 2

08:59AM NZST – The Spanish F50 won race 2. While there were 3 teams in the race, only Emirates GBR and the Spanish really raced each other; the USA team got some course practice.

DAY 1: SAT 30 MAY 2026 NYT / SUN 31 MAY NZSTRACE 1

08:34AM NZST – Mid Race 1 Emirates GBR has put on dramatic speed! 97.3 km/h high speed. Very fast, maybe we will see a league record time registered in an F50?

GBR takes Race 1

08:27AM NZST – Only Spain and Emirates GBR are on the water, on the race course. Coming up the backside, Australia and the USA. We cannot see them, but my analytics screen says they are moving…

08:32AM NZST – And only two boats on the water. Not really a worthy race to even start. I guess we have to fill the TV time?

In any case, we are about to see Spain race Emirates GBR.

08:45AM NZST – Emirates GBR takes Race 1. Only two teams at the start line, Spain comes in second, or last…

DAY 1: SAT 30 MAY 2026 NYT / SUN 31 MAY NZSTPRE-RACE UPDATE

Update on the racing today and schedule tomorrow

08:26 AM NZST – Racing at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix has been delayed roughly an hour, with a start now expected around 8:30pm NZ time. High winds have prevented cranes from getting all of the F50s into the water. First race schedule for 8:33am.

SailGP has confirmed a four-boat fleet will compete on day one, with teams selected by current championship standing. The points system has been adjusted to match: a race win is worth three points, with three, two, one, and zero available across the fleet.

Sunday’s schedule is unchanged.

Racing is delayed, boats are not getting in the water

08:21AM NZST – Racing in New York has been pushed back roughly an hour, with high winds at the venue halting crane operations before the start. The new expected start time is around 8:30pm NZ time.

North Sails Canada posted on Facebook that cranes were unable to get all of the F50s into the water. Some boats remain on shore. If racing goes ahead, the fleet will be short.

Boating New Zealand will update this article as the situation clears.
